| Mamoru Takanashi successfully defends his PhD thesis | ||
On October 26, 2011, Mamoru Takanashi successfully defended his PhD thesis at the Colorado School of Mines. His thesis, titled "Anisotropic parameter estimation in the presence of a laterally heterogeneous overburden," introduces time- and depth-domain algorithms designed to estimate anisotropy parameters and perform seismic imaging in the presence of small-scale lateral heterogeneity. Mamoru joined CWP in August 2008 and has worked on his thesis under the direction of Prof. Ilya Tsvankin. He will return in November 2011 to the Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) and continue his work in imaging and anisotropy research for oil and gas fields. Congratulations, Mamoru!

CWP at the SEG: Thank you for joining us at the CWP Semi-Annual Meeting |
||
CWP would like to thank everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to attend our CWP Semi-Annual Meeting at the SEG Meeting in San Antonio. Our meeting and reception provided 180-plus guests with a casual and informal opportunity to greet, meet and speak with our CWP faculty, students and staff. During the course of the meeting, CWP students discussed their research using mini-posters to CWP sponsor representatives and other meeting attendees. It was wonderful to see all the familiar faces (as well as new ones) at our meeting! Thank you again for arranging your plans during SEG to join us. CWP looks forward to seeing our consortium sponsor representatives again at the 2012 CWP Project Review Meeting in Breckenridge, Colorado. Please see the "Save the Date" announcement below for additional details.

| CWP continues its commitment to enhance high-performance computing capabilities | ||
CWP announced in 2010 a strategic decision to expand signficiantly our High Performance Computing resources and to give computing a higher profile in our research and educational program. We are pleased to report that we have already implemented the first phase of this program. This year, we will continue with a second phase in which we plan to acquire at least as many cores as we did in the preceding year. Read more details on page 6 in the 2011-2012 CWP newsletter. |
